“I learned at an early age that I could make the things that I wanted. That’s a very powerful thing to realize as a kid. LEGOs were a key part of that.” — by Adam Savage.
Course Features
Through hands-on practical learning, students will develop their adaptability, critical thinking, innovation, communication, and cooperation skills.
Students think critically and creatively by using different Lego pieces, employing abilities, behaviors, and dispositions such as reason, logic, resourcefulness, creativity, and invention.
Teams with a high level of self-awareness make better judgments, communicate better with one another, and successfully handle tensions and disputes.
Course Contents
Beginner
In this lesson, children will learn about cause and effect by creating chain reactions.
In this lesson, children will learn about how and why things roll, and predict and measure distances using non-standard units.
In this lesson, children will learn about different forms of art, and they will create and role-play a show.
Understand the importance of being helpful to each other.
Learn about the difference between family and extended family and what it means to have a family.
Intermediate
Introduces building and coding using the Motion Sensor.
Introduces building and coding using the motor further, making it turn for a set amount of time and then change direction.
Introduces building and coding using the Motor Power Block to make the motor turn at different speeds.
Introduces building and coding using the Light Block.
Exploring energy, forces and friction and non-standard measuring.
Advanced
Identify a wheel and axle as a simple machine and where friction might be found.
Explore and recognize that how fast or how slowly one gear makes another turn depends on the number of teeth on the gears and their position.
Explore how messages can be transferred from one place to another.
Explore how animals use their senses in order to receive different types of information.
Investigating what factors can make a car go faster to help predict future motion.
Master
Exercise creativity, explore the design engineering process, and invent a desktop helper.
Explore the scientific concepts of forces and structures, pulleys, controlling machines and mechanical advantage.
Explore the scientific concepts of levers, forces, effects of loads and solve problems involving scale factors.
Explore the scientific concepts of simple machines of gears, motion, position versus time, gear ratios, gearbox and understand the metric system of measurements.
Apply knowledge and skills related to structures, stability, safety, and fair testing.
